The Town of Newport adopted its CAMA Land Use Plan in January 2025. The plan serves as a comprehensive guide for future growth, public investment, and community development, establishing goals, policies, and initiatives that reflect the community’s vision. The Coastal Resources Commission certified the CAMA Land Use Plan on March 14, 2025.
The second phase of this effort is the development of a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). Town staff and the Insight team are currently drafting the UDO to implement the goals and policies outlined in the Land Use Plan. Project updates and draft materials will be posted on this website as they become available.

Recognizing that a collaborative effort with the public is essential, the initial step in the planning process is the adoption of a Citizen Participation Plan (CPP) by the Newport Town Council.
The Town Council appointed the Planning Board to supervise the preparation of the CAMA Land Use Plan and Unified Development Ordinance. Town Staff and the consultant will serve in an advisory capacity to the Planning Board. Final approval will be by the Newport Town Council following review and recommendation by the Planning Board.
